A Simple Test That Could
Catch a Serious Problem Early
Poor circulation in the legs is common, often silent, and very manageable when found early. Our ABI Circulation Test is a quick, completely painless way to check how well blood is flowing through your legs — and potentially prevent serious complications before they happen.
- What Is an ABI Test?
Checking Your Circulation in Plain English
ABI stands for Ankle-Brachial Index. It's a simple comparison between the blood pressure in your arm and the blood pressure at your ankle. Under normal circumstances, those numbers should be fairly similar.
If there's a significant difference between the two readings, it suggests that blood isn't flowing as freely through the arteries in your legs as it should be. This can indicate a condition called Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) — a narrowing or blockage of the arteries that supply your lower limbs.
PAD is more common than most people realize — and it's often completely silent in its early stages. But if left undetected and untreated, it can significantly increase your risk of heart attack and stroke, and in severe cases, lead to serious limb complications.
The good news: when caught early, PAD is very manageable with lifestyle changes and medication. That's why this simple test is so valuable.
The Test — What Actually Happens
-
You lie comfortably on an exam table. No needles, no injections, no discomfort.
-
Blood pressure cuffs are placed on your upper arms and just above your ankles.
-
A small handheld Doppler device listens to blood flow in each location — similar to how a stethoscope works.
-
We calculate your ABI score and discuss the results with you — right there in the office. The whole test takes about 15 minutes.
